Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria
PRESS STATEMENT
Ajibola Oladiipo, public intellectual, registered member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, and Executive Director of the Nigeria Food Security Project, has issued a formal statement calling for a disciplined shift in political focus toward immediate governance responsibilities and institutional strengthening within the party and the state.
According to the statement, the present political moment requires stabilizing leadership anchored in policy depth, administrative competence, and measurable governance outcomes rather than premature electoral calculations. While internal party processes and future electoral cycles remain legitimate components of democratic participation, they must not displace the urgency of present economic, fiscal, and agricultural realities confronting Oyo State.
The statement notes that the ongoing membership registration and revalidation exercise within the APC represents more than a procedural obligation. Having formally registered and revalidated his membership, Oladiipo described the exercise as a necessary demonstration of organizational discipline, data integrity, and structural modernization. Political parties, the statement emphasizes, must evolve from personality-driven mobilization toward professionalized institutions capable of demographic analysis, policy design, and sustained grassroots coordination.
Addressing the growing public emphasis on future electoral ambitions, the statement cautions that excessive preoccupation with succession politics risks generating a governance vacuum at a time when Oyo State faces inflationary pressures, agricultural inefficiencies, and substantial budgetary commitments. The responsibilities embedded in current fiscal cycles, food system vulnerabilities, and infrastructure demands require coordinated oversight and constructive engagement rather than deferred attention.
Ajibola Oladiipo affirmed that political maturity is measured by the resilience of institutions rather than the intensity of campaigns. Strengthening governance architecture, advancing policy professionalism, and cultivating economic citizenship were identified as immediate imperatives. The durability of party relevance and public trust, the statement concludes, depends on the capacity to build systems that function effectively before seeking mandates to lead them.
